CredibleMeds API Beta is live

Every year, thousands of people die from taking certain commonly prescribed medications that have proven heart toxicity when safer alternatives are available. Since our founding in 1999, CredibleMeds® has fostered the safe use of medicines by developing and continuously applying the Adverse Drug Event Causality Analysis (ADECA™) – an evidence-based technology that assesses the cardiac safety of medicines and posts the results as the QTdrugs lists on our internationally recognized website, www.crediblemeds.org

To support safe prescribing practices, a number of clinical institutions have incorporated these lists of medicines that have a risk of heart rhythm toxicity, i.e. torsades de pointes (TdP) arrhythmia, into their Electronic Medical Record (EMR) technology.  CredibleMeds, in partnership with the US Food and Drug Administration’s Safe Use Initiative, has developed a new website that is designed to integrate the QTdrugs database of risk-stratified medicines into their electronic systems – seamlessly and in real time – through an API connection.  Health IT and software professionals who represent healthcare providers can utilize this site and its API for the purpose of testing this integration.  By integrating the QTdrugs database with each patient’s EMR, the electronic systems, operating in the background, can inform physicians immediately when they have prescribed a medicine that places their patient at risk of developing heart toxicity that can include sudden cardiac death.

Currently, this API site is in a Private Beta stage, with access granted upon request. Once CredibleMeds® and our partners determine that the API is a reliable and effective method of data transmission, we intend to make it a foundational component of our clinical outreach. Organizations interested in utilizing this API connection should contact us here.
